Is There a New Way of Investing and Choosing Stocks?

Should you follow the new way of investing? That is the question. The answer is no.

I heard a conversation about the speed of choosing an investment. The premise was that investors move fast in today’s markets. They see or hear a trend and jump on it. The fear of missing out is always there. The attitude of this group is that information travels fast. You must be ready to act or get left behind.

This is what I took away from that conversation. Don’t do your homework. Use your gut and emotional reactions in place of sound financial research and math. Buy the stock fast and react to the downside later. This whirlwind of action fools investors into thinking they are investing.

What they are doing is throwing mental darts at a wall. This type of flurry activity and little thinking saddles these speculators with lots of downside risks and losses.

To sum things up, these investors are looking for an easy way to make lots of money fast. They hope they will be forgiven in the markets for not doing research. That is a mistake. The stock markets punish those who treat them like a game. And those of us who have done our homework will profit from those who have not.
